How many words should I write for a Novel?

It depends on what you are writing about but generally speaking between 80,000 and 90,000 words is what you should be looking at. This word count is commonly accepted as a safe range for mainstream, literary, romance, mystery, thriller and horror. This would see your manuscript categorised as a novel. Have anything over that word count will bring other factors into play such as excess costs for more pages to be printed. Will it keep the reader’s interest without being too drawn out?

Between this word count range for a beginner is no easy feat, so try to make Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound targets for yourself. (SMART)

If you do this correctly your writing will improve as your focus and commitment to your project will have your 100% attention. Which also means you will make regular gains in your manuscript.

Hope you stick around! 🙂
